A relief camp was organised on 5th June, 2020 at Lalpur village, Mathurapur, South 24 Parganas after the devastating cyclone Umphun has hit the whole of Sundarban area; it was hard to describe the wretched condition of the poor people there….. No food, no shelter, no medicine… It was no less than a worst nightmare ! .
We arranged for about 200 Tripols –donated by Sunrise Company and Professor Subhasis Dey of York University and many well wishers who have contributed generously for this noble cause. These tripols were distributed among the poor villagers who have lost their only shelters overnight due to this Amphan cyclone… the Headmaster of local Krishnachandrapur High School has helped us identify the deserving families…. the school was running a community kitchen there where the destitute villagers took food since the Amphan had hit the area. This was a joint effort by Mallarpur Uthnau of Birbhum and Utthan of Kolkata.
Our team was had a medical unit –headed by two eminent Doctors and a health assistant… local people – almost 190 villagers, both males, females & children from Lalpur and adjacent villages like, Jalghata, Ranaghata, Debipur, and others have lined up for medical check up– medicines collected from different sources have been distributed among them.
Amphan hit hard, not only on the costal areas, but also had devastating effects in many areas of south 24 parganas. one such area badly hit was Mallikpur. People did not have shelter, food , medication.it was no less than a nightmare. We arranged Dry Food Supplies for more than 200 people. Our team did a survey and found all those who needed help.
