COVID-19, the Global Pandemic has hit India sometimes during March 2020 and caused a havoc so far.
To combat the spread of virus, the whole country has gone into complete lock down mode for months since March 24th …. A total closure of all activities- industry shut down; transport (Rail/ Air/ Water) fully stalled; shops closed except for few essential commodities.
People, particularly the poor and daily wage earners are in great distress for not getting food for their families in absence of normal working during lock down period.
UTTHAN has taken initiatives to arrange foods, cooked and uncooked to daily average 150 Rag-pickers, coolies, rickshaw pullers at different places around Kolkata and suburbs.
Cooked food distributed to about 150 rag pickers families daily in Titagarh & Barrackpore area in North 24 parganas for 25 days starting April 10th, 2020.
In Naihati, North 24 Parganas, dry food packets have been distributed to 50 distressed families on 17th April,2020.
During the period 26th April to 15th May,2020, a Community Kitchen was organized and cooked food had been distributed among rag pickers families in Haroa, North 24 parganas for 20 days.
During the lock down period in August 2nd week, dry food and soaps had been distributed in Jadavpur area, Kolkata.
Utthan Provided Medical assistance to small kid from Minakha , North 24 Parganas . She was suffering from a kidney disease and needed immediate operation .Utthan helped her reach Bangalore, arranged the kidney operation .
