Phase 1

On 20th  May 2020 a devastating Super Cyclone struck Sunderban areas of west Bengal, completely disrupting livelihood of the people.

As a small endeavour for restoration of life &livelihood at Amphan affected Sundarban, UTTHAN has primarily identified 50 ponds of very poor family in Rupmari village, Hingalganj. Pumping out the saline water from the ponds-about 200 cottha, have already started. As the rain water would fill in the said ponds, fishlings will be given to the families to bring their livelihood into normalcy.

Phase 2

First phase of UTTHAN’s endeavour for restoration of life & livelihood at Amphan affected Rupmari village,Sundarban, has been completed.Saline water has been pumped out from 50 ponds of very poor family,which are slowly being filled with rain water in this monsoon. In the Second phase, members of Utthan have visited the village for pH/salanity testing of pond water & distributed fish saplings to several pond owners in the presence of local panchayat supervisor Shri Swapan Mandal Mahasaya, to bring their livelihood into normalcy.
